Veterans Day in USA 2022 is a day of remembrance created to honor all the military personnel who served in the wars in the United States of America. It is specially intended to honor and thank the living veterans of the wars. It is a United States federal holiday that is celebrated on the day of November 11 each year irrespective of the day it falls on. The date of 11th November has special significance as it signifies the armistice finalization and signing which put an end to World War I in the year of 1918 between the Allied Nations and Germany.
This day is celebrated by a number of activities like church services, military parades on popular streets in cities of the United States and the flag of the country is on half-mast during the day as a mark of respect for the living veterans. Across the United States of America, a two-minute silence is observed at 11 am remembering those who fought in the wars protecting the country.
Schools are some states remain open while in some states, schools remain open and have ceremonies and parades to mark the occasion. Veterans Day is a US Federal holiday and a day off is given to all federal government organizations. If the Veterans Day falls on a Saturday, then the previous Friday is observed as a holiday. If the Veterans Day falls on a Sunday, then the following Monday is deemed a holiday for Veterans Day.
All services regulated and managed by the federal government remains closed like the postal services and all government offices. State and local governments, private companies, and schools are not mandated to remain closed and thus they mostly remain open. Public services like transportation services follow a holiday schedule during the day.
As per historical records, WWI officially ended with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles on June 28, 1919, but the day of November 11, 1918, marked the day when war activities ceased with the signing of the armistice. An armistice was the formal agreement signed by the two parties to stop the fighting in the war. The first Veterans Day was officially declared on November 11, 1919, by the then president Wilson and the day was also known as the Armistice Day.
